The Short Version

Writing comes naturally to me.  I thrive on collecting information, developing creative ideas, and making meaningful connections with readers. I like to work with people who care about what they do, but who may not be able to describe their work in a way that others will understand.  That’s where I come in.

I’m really good at sorting through jumbled opinions and facts and presenting them in a sincere and reliable way. I can quickly put the little pieces of life together and see the big picture.  I bring enthusiasm and experiences as a former wildland firefighter, national park ranger, news reporter, editor, long-time freelancer, and publisher of a former local news website (2010-2012) to my work. I graduated from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota and have a master’s degree in communicating arts from the University of Wisconsin. In 2019 I finished up a certificate in Catholic theology (liturgy) from the University of Notre Dame’s McGrath Institute for Church Life. I have won awards from the Wisconsin State Bar Association, the Inland Press Association and the Wisconsin Newspaper Association for my writing and photography. The Institute for Journalism and Natural Resources, in Missoula, Montana, also named me “fellow” and “protégé.”
